Congratulations! You completed Module 17. :)

Now it's time to go through the Module 17 Practice Routine!

But don't forget: at this stage of your beginner journey, you should tweak this suggested practice routine to best fit your needs. My suggestion has a one-hour rounded schedule, but you might choose to leave some of these things out and focus on something else.

You may want to practice more, or maybe you want to practice less! You can also choose to split your practice routine over two days. Decide what will work for you because we all start having different needs and different problems at this point.

Module 17: Suggested Practice Routine

My suggestion is a well-rounded, holistic practice routine, but feel free to manipulate it to your needs. You can, and should, swap sections for things that are more important for you right now. So here is a summary of your suggested practice routine for Module 17:

Let's have a chat about it! It'll help you decide how to adapt your practice routine to best fit your needs. Feel free to keep it as it is as well!

Section #1 - Technique - 2 x 5-minutes

Finger Gym + Picking Individual Strings While Strumming

Your first practice section is all about technique, and you've got two slots of 5 minutes each. The first slot should be Finger Gym unless something else is more important to your technical development.

Then it's time to work on picking individual strings while strumming. Take your time on this - it's a super useful technique to develop.

Section #2 - Knowledge - 2 x 5-minutes

C-Shape explorer + Using Triads

In the first section of your knowledge practice, I suggest you explore your C Shape chords. Experiment and see what cool sounds you can find, and remove the fear of trying new things!

In the second slot, I would suggest starting with triads. Memorize them, and make sure you're confident playing triads before you launch into using them in songs. Once you're hip with them, maybe move on to theory and Understanding Music :)

Section #3 - Repertoire - 2 x 5-minutes

Triads + Revision

Time to ensure that triads are not one of those things you learn but never put to use! As you grow as a guitarist, you'll find triads are very useful in many ways. Get stuck in and put them into practice!

Then, I suggest a good dose of song revision, developing your repertoire, and working on your growers and dreamers. :)

Section #4 - Time - 2 x 5-minutes

Thumb & Finger Strumming + Songs You Love

I'd suggest starting with some work on the thumb and finger strumming, even if you're mostly a pick player. It's a great skill to get into your hands!

The second slot would be playing along with songs you love - a really big deal. You can even try and pretend that you're in the band! :) This is an exercise I'd suggest you keep in your schedule for a long time. I still do it often.

Section #5 - 10-minute slots

Transcribing Riffs

Time to get transcribing some riffs! If you get through the ones I suggested, have a go at any riff you like. The more you do, the better you get. Weird, right? ;)

Section #6 - Improvisation - 10-minutes

Major Scale Improv

This one is optional. If you're working on improvising and looked at Blues the last few weeks, maybe switch to work on some major scale improvisation. What do you enjoy? I've got some jam tracks you can try on!

When to Move On?

Before moving on to Module 18, you should practice this routine for at least two weeks, maybe three or four. Don't be in a hurry to move forward - being able to play a few things well is much more useful than playing many things badly! ;)
