Beginner Products: First Steps

Beginners Course (4 x DVD)
That is where it is at for most people starting out, or that suspect they don't have the basics down. I introduce quite a few ideas and concepts you won't find in other method books, things that you will carry right through your guitar journey! I don't think there is a better beginner course available anywhere on the internet or in books or DVD sets. This course will have you playing quickly in a fun and progressive course! |

Beginners Course (BOOK, a real paper book)
The much anticipated book version of The Beginners Course is now shipping! I know we said 12th of December, but that was worst case scenario, and it's been way better :) Easily time for xmas now!!
This is all the text from The Beginners Course with 2 CDs of audio examples and pdf files for the practice routines. Combined with the DVD set you have all the info you would have in the online course!! |

Beginners Songbook (BOOK, a real paper book)
This book contains 10 songs for every stage of the beginners course (and ten bonus songs) and so it will really help you put your new skills into practice and be able to play lots of songs (which is kinda the point isn't it!). If you learn just 5 tunes from each stage then by the end of the beginners course you would know all your basics and be able to play FIFTY songs. That is cool.
This is our biggest seller!! |

Practical Music Theory (eBook)
About halfway through the Beginners Course I would recommend making a start on the music theory. A little goes a long way and the first 10 or so pages will really give you some important understanding into what is going on with the theory. And knowing stuff really helps you develop the things you learn. |

Strumming Techniques 1 (DVD)
Learning to strum right and well is probably the most important things that you can learn. Once you "get it" it feels great and having solid rhythm skills makes playing even simple songs sound great! So I would really recommend getting this DVD as well as the Beginner Course if you want to develop this core skill quickly and well. |

Master Rock Power chords (eBook and mp3)
I developed this series of play along tracks as a learning tool for those that want to learn the traditional chords first, so it starts real easy... but this is also a great way for anyone to get confident playing with a backing track and prepare for playing in a band. It's a lot of fun and there's a are great skills to learn here! |

Solo Blues Guitar (3 x DVD)
The 3 tunes found on the Solo Blues
Guitar DVD 1 are all great fun for beginners finishing the course. You probably wouldn't want to start with it, but if you are near the end of the course and enjoy playing solo guitar (songs that sound complete with just the guitar, no vocal required) then this is a really good pack! It is mainly finger style based material which is a great skill to get working early on. |
Intermediate Products: Developing more essential skills
Once you have the basics under your fingers, it's time to move onto Barre Chords and then start to specialize a bit if you like - learn lead guitar (blues or major scale) or look at Style Modules.

Intermediate Method (5 x DVD)
This course introduces barre chords, scales and use, and more complex rhythm ideas. It moves on perfectly from the Beginners Course and keeps to a similar format. It is the same course as is found on this web site but with three bonus lessons for each stage. |

Strumming Techniques 2 (DVD)
This DVD looks at 16th note strumming which is a very common and very useful way of strumming. The patterns taught in this DVD are some of the most common ones played on guitar. You should have completed Strumming Techniques 1 or be confident with 8th strumming before starting these lessons. |

Folk Fingerstyle Module (DVD)
This is the first of the "intermediate modules" which develops many of the skills and techniques learnt in the Intermediate Method. It covers basic folk fingerstyle patterns, linking the C Major scale with open position chords to play chord melody, and then combining them. Also looks at Travis picking and using hammers and flicks. DVD contains 3 exclusive (not on YouTube) lessons. |

Blues Rhythm Guitar Module (1 x DVD)
This 3 hour 30 minute DVD is a comprehensive look at Blues Rhythm Guitar. As well as the 10 lesson that will eventaully be online in the Blues Rhythm Guitar online course, you get 3 DVD only bonus lessons (44 minutes worth) including one on Voice Leading which I think is ace! You also get a pdf booklet with the charts and text so it's standalone pack. And you get the mp3 files for the backing track that accompanies each lesson! |

Blues Lead Guitar Module (2 x DVD, 1 x CD)
This set includes all 20 lessons found on the web site plus the Jam Blues Backing Tracks on CD. If you want to explore lead guitar, then this will get you off to a great start teaching you all the techniques, scales and vocabulary (licks) that you will need, in all five Minor Pentatonic Patterns. Either start with this, or Master The Major Scale but it's not recommended that you do both at once. |

Jam Blues (mp3)
This is a collection of backing tracks that are perfect for use with (and after) the Blues Lead Guitar course or DVD. They are in a range of key and styles and are perfect for working in your new blues licks and making them into music. Using backing tracks is a very essential part of practice if you are not playing in a band regularly (or at least jamming with another guitar player). |

Master The Major Scale Module (DVD)
This DVD is one I am very proud of, having seen many students work through this and come out being able
to play the major scale confidently all over the neck. The DVD focuses on the G Major Scale throughout, exploring one position at a time and doing multiple exercises to help you USE the major scales. There is little to be learned from playing scales up and down, but a lot to be learned by using them, which is the big goal of this DVD. |

Jam Major (mp3)
This is a collection of backing tracks that are perfect for use with (and after) the Master
Major Scale DVD. There are a few in G Major for you to use with the DVD, and then a load more in other keys for you to work on once you have mastered the Key of G all over the neck. A very useful practice tool indeed! |

Chord Construction Guide (eBook)
Once you are confident with you basic E and A shape barre chords (when you have completed the Intermediate Method), this book will show you an easy and logical way to transform them into many other chords. It goes through each of the CAGED shapes in great detail and shows you how to transform each from major to minor to major 7, minor 7, dominant 7, minor7b5, major 6, minor 6 and diminished 7th. That is a great chord vocabulary to build on! |

Solo Blues Guitar (3 x DVD)
If you enjoyed the pieces in the first DVD then the three songs on the second DVD are really going to be fun as you will be using new skills and pushing your techniques.
The songs get more challenging, in line with the other "intermediate" materials on the site. Challenging but fun! |
Moving Forward

Really Useful Blues Solos (eBook and mp3)
This is one of my best products I think. Learning to play blues by ear is where it's at. No question. It's the way that all the masters of guitar learned to play. but it's hard to start transcribing. So what I have done here is written solos in the style of Albert King, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The idea is that you try and transcribe the songs yourself. I give you the tab too so you can check how you are going... but if you get through these you'll have the confidence to transcribe whatever you like! |

Understanding Rhythmic Notation (eBook)
I still remember studying Louis Belsons Modern Reading Text. It's a drum book with pages and pages of rhythm. And it changed my playing totally. By learning to play and recognise rhythmic figures you will be able to play, use feel and transcribe more complex grooves. This eBook was written with good friend and drum guru Justin Scott (of justindrums.com) and although slightly similar in approach to the Belson book it adds much greater structure and a lot more instruction. |

Solo Blues Guitar (3 x DVD)
The third DVD in this set has some pretty challenging tunes on it that use alternating bass patterns and lots of syncopation. Lot of folk love them, they really sound cool and you develop a whole lot of skills in the process. The set really going from the very basics to some pretty tricky stuff :) |

Awesome Guitar Licks 01-20 (1 x DVD)
This DVD contains the first 20 of my Weekly Lick series of licks. Each one is a lesson in itself, not just a quick look at a lick, I try and scrath the surface a bit so you can understand what is going on with it and how you might use it and manipulate it into your own playing style.

Really Useful Play Along Tracks (mp3)
This collection of mp3's offer you a range of backing tracks to use when practicing: 2 for the 12 Bar Blues, 2 for the Major Scale, 7 Modal tunes (one for each mode) and some keyboard pads which are great for exploring extended arpeggios and pitch axis modal movements. |
