Do you teach complete beginners?
Yes, I teach all levels of ability. About half of my students are beginners. That said - I do offer a very good course here for free which I recommend people at least look at first before coming for lessons.
Why do you charge so much more than regular teachers?
Sorry if my rates seem higher than other teachers but I beleive that for a serious student I can offer a better quality of lesson than an 'average' teacher - I am very experienced and can really make a difference to your playing, motivation and have many tried and tested programs that will help you be the best you can be. I can also recommend specific video lessons that I have on YouTube and suggest and order to approach them combined with you personalised lessons.
I currently charge £75 for a 55 minute lesson. I have to pay VAT (that is 15%) which leaves me with £61.20. I have to pay 40% income tax, so I just left with £36.72, which is what most other teachers charge (many charge a whole lot more than that too!). I make sure to declare my earnings because I'm an "internet celebrity" [sic], and I don't want to risk problems with Inland Revenue. I know it is a lot - but I am so busy, and in so much demand that I have to make it worth my while... and I do honestly think that I can make a difference in a short period of time.
Can I just have one lesson?
That can be a good idea initially, in fact you will have to have a lesson or two before there is a chance of a regular space. We will plan a practice schedule and see if it works for you, get a feel for the way I teach and see if I am worth it!
I have many students that I only see a couple of times a year - and it works very well for them. You will need the motivation to keep your practice going, but I can give you solid directions to help you be the best you will be in just a few lessons!
Do you teach children?
Sorry but no. I don't teach children under 15. There are other teachers around that are better suited to younger students. Check out Key 2 Music who are friends of mine and offer a good service for the younger learner, a solid practical approach! Tell Diana I sent you :)
Do you do home visits?
No sorry, I'm too busy as it is :)
Should I bring my own guitar?
Yes it is recommended that you bring your own guitar, that way I can see you do your best and not stumble on a strange instrument.
Do you do online video chat lessons?
I have done and can do but am currently too busy teaching real people and the web site. :)
How long is the waiting list?
How soon I can fit you in just depends on how much touring I am doing and how often students stop. I often get times when people cancel, so I try and fit people in for irregular lessons too. One off lessons are very possible, regular spaces are very rare at the moment, and I have quite a list of students that are very keen and tick all the boxes for being good students...
